Bio:
Helen has been playing violin since she was five and singing since she can remember. As a high school student she was a member of the Lugovier Quartet and concertmaster of her hometown’s youth symphony. As a singer she participated in a jazz trio called the Tritones, and was a performer in the La Crosse Central Show Choir, Grand Central Station. Helen attended St. Olaf College, where she was a music and women’s studies major. She was a four-year member of the St. Olaf Orchestra and performed in many St. Olaf Theatre productions. Currently, she is living in Minneapolis and performs as a violinist in the Lirica Chamber Orchestra and as a vocalist in the cover band FlashMob.
A typical lesson will include warm-up scales, an etude, playing/singing of repetoire, and some sight-reading. In violin lessons I use a combination of Suzuki techniques and theory. For voice, I draw on aspects of the Alexander method and group singing. I address each student differently based on their individual needs and expect students to be focused, excited learners!
In addition to Classical music, I also enjoy musical theatre, pop, and Irish music, and invite students in bring in alternative repetoire!
